About

Arlington Band Boosters is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. Our mission is to enliven and maintain an enthusiastic interest in the band programs of the Arlington Central School District. We provide support (moral, financial, social, and otherwise) for the band programs and band students at the Arlington High School.

The Arlington High School Music program is a nationally recognized music program that has enjoyed many successes since its beginnings over 50 years years ago.

The Arlington Music program has been named one of the Top 100 Communities for Music Education in the USA. The band programs have garnered many accolades and honors at the local, regional, state, and national levels. Every school year several hundred Arlington students participate in one or more of the many programs offered by the Arlington High School Music Department. The program offers multiple levels of bands, choirs, and orchestras as well as instruction in music theory and piano.

Arlington Band Booster Inc. (ABBI) provides a wide range of support to these programs including scholarships, staffing concerts, and music festivals, equipment and instrument purchases, and helping to raise funds that support the band programs. ABBI has donated more than $42,000 per year for the past two years in support of the Arlington Band Program. Through fundraising endeavors and volunteer efforts the organization has provided support for:
  • Instrument purchases
  • College music scholarships
  • Summer Music Camp Scholarships
  • Berklee Jazz Festival
  • Marching Band
  • Guest Conductor Concerts
  • Winter Guard
  • Jazz Cabaret
  • Student expenses for Conference All-State

The Arlington Marching Band Invitational is the Booster’s largest annual activity, held each October and attracts thousands of spectators for an afternoon of high school marching band competition. The Arlington Invitational has been used as the model for many other school districts based on its perennial success.

2023-2024 Board of Directors

Officers are elected each June for the upcoming year. Nominations are due by April 1st of each year.

As a board we have three duties to our organization. The Duty of Care, The Duty of Loyalty, and The Duty of Obedience.

Duty of Care — Directors should demonstrate competence in performing their directorial functions. The duty of care includes acting in good faith; reading agenda materials and being prepared for meetings; participating in meetings and asking questions; and exercising independent judgement as opposed to blindly following the lead of colleagues.

Duty of Loyalty — Directors must faithfully pursue the interests of the organization. The interests should be prioritized above all personal interests. Directors may not use their service on the board, including information that is made available to them, to secure personal interests. Full disclosure is required, as is abstinence from conflicting discussion and decision. This duty also calls for directors to maintain confidentiality of all board discussions.

Duty of Obedience — Directors should faithfully pursue the organization’s mission and decisions within the bounds of the law. Directors must adhere to the organization’s policies and procedures. Even if a Directors disagrees, they must support and help implement decisions made by the board as a whole.
